Laborers, Our Heritage
40 hours

The make up of this class is part general Union history, LIUNA history, LIUNA Northwest District Council history, local union history and individual membership history. This will be done in Labor Center style, which is group centered and participant driven. This program, like the core of all our programs is information, discussion, analysis, and practice.

Students will be presented with information in the form of written material, film, speakers, web sites, oral histories, etc. Students will have the opportunity to discuss, ask questions, analyze, reflect and will work at participatory research and collaborative work with each other to practice skills that can be taken back to their locals and fellow members. The overriding emphasis of the program is to encourage them to develop a commitment to their union and fellow workers by helping them to understand what LIUNA is, where it came from, and where it is going. This way all participants may develop a sense of ownership and pride in the rich yet imperfect history of a great organization.
